The Google logo changes when there is a special day to celebrate. Last week on St Davids Day the letter L had been replaced with a daffodil. Even though letters are replaced with images on these two examples we can still recognise it as 'Google'. The images are also representative of the special day and give the logo an extra dimension, a feeling of that day.
I don't think the Valentines Day logo works as well as the other two, it looks like it says 'Googe'! I also think the chocolate coated strawberry is a bit naff and isn't a very good representation of Valentines Day.
